Deconsecrated church buildings around the UK are being lavishly refurbished and turned into unique spaces for wedding celebrations and civil ceremonies.
Deconsecration is the act of removing a religious blessing from a building which had been previously consecrated by a minister or priest of a religion. So, if you love the idea of marrying inside a church but without the religious element, these venues are your answer. The light, atmosphere and acoustics in this type of venue is unrivalled so sit back and enjoy a few of our favourite church venues on the site.

Parkstead House
The deconsecrated chapel at Parkstead House on the edge of the wonderful Richmond Park in Surrey is a special place to exchange your vows. Manresa Hall is the name given to the 19th Century chapel. With room for an impressive 150 guests for a civil ceremony, they will be wowed by the soaring arches and decorated ceilings. The old organ loft and floor to ceiling doors will certainly add a real sense of grandeur to a wedding day.
When evening comes, Manresa Hall is transformed into a party place, ideal for live bands and DJs. By the stroke of Midnight the party must sadly come to an end but one thing’s for sure, you will have had a ball at this lovely venue.

Halle St Peter’s
For a Manchester venue that will leave your guests speechless, look no further than Halle St Peter’s in the heart of the city. Located in Ancoats, this deconsecrated church has undergone an impressive renovation scheme. Now a spectacular events space, the Grade II Listed building can accommodate 230 people comfortably for a special day.
The history surrounding this church building is fascinating. Its distinctive semi-circular apse was built as such so it would stand out against the angular mill buildings which dominated the skyline back in the 1850’s when Halle St Peter’s was built. Hold your wedding at this historic building and you will be supporting the local community in Ancoats. Every event held at Halle St Peter’s will support the building’s successful Education Programme which looks to bring a greater enjoyment and understanding of music to those who may not be exposed to the arts in their everyday life.
